The Hard Truth
Chester County is one of the wealthiest counties in Pennsylvania, yet on any given day, approximately 684 persons experience homelessness. The causes of homelessness vary among individuals and families, but one of the factors that contributes to homelessness is the lack of affordable housing.
Chester County’s “Decade To Doorways” Plan
In 2011, the Chester County Department of Community Development, in partnership with over 200 community stakeholders, came together to develop a 10-year plan to prevent and end homelessness in Chester County, PA. In November 2011, the Chester County Board of Commissioners adopted the “Decade to Doorways” plan.
“Right Among Us” Video
This video entitled “Right Among Us” depicts homelessness in Chester County. It was produced in 2012 by a Great Valley High School student named Micaela Suminski and features Chester County Commissioner Ryan Costello.
